A steadfast fascination with the number twenty-two first began with the sight of two white swans gracefully swimming in unison across a misty lake. Although the simplicity of that image will remain forever seared into my memory, the number itself has become an active part of my photographic imprint on the world.

Queen Mary, Long Beach, California

The Queen Mary sports a lifeboat station number 22. The beautifully preserved ocean liner was launched in 1934 and made 1,001 transatlantic crossings before finally berthing in Long Beach in 1967. It has gone through many periods of renovations since, but in 1993, the RMS Foundation took over ownership and restored its original art deco style.
